St. Kitts

We had an independent excursion booked this day as well. We booked through Pereira Tours which Liz was GREAT. I cannot say enough good things about her. She also joined our Facebook roll call and helped all of the cruisers answer questions, find excursions even if they weren’t with her, and just make everyone feel welcome to St. Kitts.

We started the day by shopping around the cruise terminal. We didn’t buy anything, just browsed. We made mental notes of what we wanted to buy so we could stop and make our purchases on the way back. I did run over to the post office and mail out a few post cards. Hopefully they arrive by Christmas.

Next we met Liz at 9am and she got us to our guide, David. We took a nice ride through Basseterre. We saw The Berkeley Memorial, a replica of the clock in Piccadilly Circus in London. We also saw Independence Square (a former slave market), the Roman Catholic Cathedral and St. George’s Angelicin Church. After we left Basseterre, we headed out on the islands main road where we passed seaside villages on our way to Bloody Point which is where the Carib Indians died at the hands of the English and French in 1626.

Next, we went to Romney Manor which was once owned by Samuel Jefferson, the great great great grandfather of the third US President, Thomas Jefferson. This beautiful plantation was on 25 acres of lush tropical gardens and is also home to the popular Caribelle Batik. This was a really cool art to watch them make. If you ever go here, make sure to have them to explain the art to you and you will be sure to buy one!

From Romney Manor, we headed to Brimstone Hill Fortress, which is an 18th Century fortress and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was simply beautiful up here. It was a little scary going up/down the mountain but definitely worth it in the end. It was just steep and narrow, nothing too extreme. I’d definitely do it again though to get those views.

After we left the fortress, we headed to Timothy Hill. This is where the Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean meet. This is what I was most excited about seeing. It wasn’t as high up as you would expect but definitely gave you the views you would expect. I loved it here.

After we left Timothy Hill, we headed on back to the port where we got on our ship.

After we got back on the ship, we went to take showers and get ready for dinner. After dinner we took some more pictures and just wondered around the ship some. I think we went to see karaoke this night which was pretty good.

This page is dedicated to Liz Pereira of Pereira Tours. Liz was a wonderful lady and was very known in the cruise community for her wonderful excursions she offered in St. Kitts. She was very active in all of the Facebook groups and many people knew her.

Sadly, Liz passed away in the spring of 2020. She will be greatly missed. I am very honored to have known her for several years and have been able to know her in person.
